NUTRITION COUNSELLING AND DIET PLANNING

Balanced meal
Food differs place to place so the tradition and culture does. But only one thing is common that every culture and tradition have their idea of balanced meal to fulfill time to time requirement of all the nutrients.
Speaking about Indian culture, we have a variety of food items that varies as the state changes. Balanced diet doesn’t require particular menu but a certain food in certain quantity. Generally we all practice 3-4 meals diet in a day. But we forget to think about the complete meal and end up eating to fulfill our hunger and cravings only. This makes us fussy eater and result in either nutrient deficiency or overeating of unwanted food. The ultimate outcome is abnormal weight gain and added gifts of metabolic disorders. No wonder now a day young people and kids are also victims of such things.
Our older generations have set some rules about what to eat in a meal at what time. Here’s the right thought of balanced diet provided already. We call it old fashion. And our new trend is DIET which either scares a person of being starved or makes them conscious to measure their each and every food on a scale. That’s not true.
All we need is a fixed meal routine with controlled and balanced meal each time.  We should understand first what we require to eat and in what amount?
Generally, a balanced meal is complete with all five food groups that are able to provide all the nutrition to body. They are carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals. Phytonutrients and water should be considered with equal importance. The requirement of each varies from person to person and hence the role of calories calculation is important here.  Thoughtfully planned meal considering these parameters is indeed a balanced meal.
